Understanding The Blue Cross Blue Shield Settlement

Who Is Eligible?

Providers across the U.S. who rendered healthcare services, equipment, or supplies to BCBS-insured patients from July 24, 2008, to October 4, 2024, may qualify for a settlement payout.

Excluded Providers:
  • Providers owned/employed by BCBS
  • Providers serving exclusively under Medicare, Medicaid, or Federal Employee Health Benefits Programs
  • Providers who have previously released claims against BCBS
  • Exclusively dental, vision, prescription drug, or medical device providers
  • Physicians licensed before March 12, 2008 who did not opt out of Love v. Blue Cross Blue Shield Association settlement

Not sure if you qualify? The team at Sagemont Services is here to assist.

What Is This Settlement About?

The BCBS Provider Settlement addresses allegations that BCBS engaged in anticompetitive practices by dividing the U.S. into exclusive service areas and fixing reimbursement rates. As a result, providers may have received reduced payments for services rendered. Rather than continuing litigation, BCBS has agreed to a $2.8 billion settlement fund to compensate eligible providers.

Understanding The Blue Cross Blue Shield Settlement

How Much Can You Recover?

Payout amounts are based on BCBS’s Allowed Amounts for claims submitted during the Settlement Class Period. Sagemont Services ensures that your claim submission reflects the most accurate reimbursement amounts to maximize your potential settlement.

The Net Settlement Fund is divided into two categories:
8%
allocated to individual medical professionals and groups
92%
allocated to hospitals and healthcare facilities

Do I Have to Use a Third-Party Filer to File My Claim?

Class members need not sign up for a third-party service in order to participate in any monetary relief, as no-cost assistance is available from the Class Administrator and Class Counsel during the claims-filing period. Additional information in connection with such no-cost assistance can be found on the Court-approved website at:

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I don’t file a claim?

If you don’t file a claim by the deadline, you forfeit your right to any settlement payments.

Can Sagemont Services file on my behalf?

Yes. With your authorization, our team will file your claim, ensuring all required information is included for a smooth approval process.

What if I already have legal representation?

Sagemont Services is not a law firm but acts as your settlement advocate. If you have an attorney handling your claim, you may still choose to work with us for additional support in data collection and claim maximization.

How will I receive my settlement payment?

Payments can be received via check, ACH, wire transfer, PayPal, Venmo, or Virtual Mastercard, depending on the amount. Fees may apply for certain payment methods.

Am I eligible if I was licensed as a physician before March 12, 2008?

Physicians licensed before March 12, 2008, are generally excluded unless they opted out of the Love v. Blue Cross Blue Shield Association settlement. However, because there is no way to verify opt-outs from that case, these physicians should assume they cannot file a claim.

How can I opt out of the Settlement?

Opting out allows you to retain your right to sue the BCBS defendants separately. The deadline to opt out is March 4, 2025.

The BCBS Settlement is a time-sensitive opportunity- don’t miss your chance to recover the funds you’re entitled to. Sagemont Services takes the burden off your shoulders, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free claim submission.
